X.YPNO - ΕΞ ΟΨΕΩΣ album launch and exhibition by x.ypno / Khaled Khalifa / Pyrgatory Studios

Pyrgatory Studios is launching the album 'ΕΞ ΟΨΕΩΣ' by x.ypno with artwork by Khaled Khalifa. x.ypno's new collection of neo-canticles revolve around vernacular politics and the dichotomous state of a musician in Cyprus that finds themself unable to decide between which language or dialect to express themself in.

x.ypno - "Blurring the boundaries of ethno-national belonging and its sonic manifestations through a blind-faith act of code-switching (definition: when a speaker alternates between two or more languages, or language varieties [e.g., the Greek-Cypriot Dialect], in the context of a single conversation or situation). In the torn polity of southern Cyprus, Hip-Hop culture and, more broadly, electro-vocal music tends to exhibit several colloquial alterations whereby lyricists employ distinct languages of communication to address their audience. Dichotomous in the sense that one is disconnected from the vernacular dialect to such an extent that they feel like this mode of communication is inappropriate or, perhaps, that it oozes a smell of vulgarity that only SMG (Standard Modern Greek) speech can extinguish."

Το Pyrgatory Studios παρουσιάζει το άλμπουμ 'ΕΞ ΟΨΕΩΣ' του x.ypno με καλλιτεχνική επιμέλεια από τον Khaled Khalifa.

Η καινούρια συλλογή νεο-ασμάτων του x.ypno διαπραγματεύεται τις πολιτικές της γλώσσας και της διαλέκτου. Αποτελεί έναν θόλωμα των ορίων της εθνικής ταυτότητας μέσω μιας πράξης εναλλαγής κωδικών (ορισμός: όταν ένας ομιλητής εναλλάσσεται μεταξύ θκυό ή περισσότερων γλωσσών ή γλωσσικών ποικιλιών [π.χ. η Ελληνοκυπριακή διάλεκτος], στο πλαίσιο μιας μεμονωμένης συνομιλίας ή κατάστασης). Στη διχασμένη πολιτεία της νότιας Κύπρου, η κουλτούρα του Hip-Hop τζαί, ευρύτερα, η ηλεκτροφωνητική μουσική τείνει να περιέχει αντιθετικές πτυχές της καθομιλουμένης, όπου οι στιχουργοί χρησιμοποιούν διαφορετικές γλώσσες η μεθόδους επικοινωνίας για να απευθυνθούν στο κοινό τους. Με την έννοια ότι διάφορα άτομα αποσυνδέουνται που την δημοτική διάλεκτο σε τέθκοιο βαθμό που νιώθουν ότι τούτος ο τρόπος επικοινωνίας ένι ακατάλληλος ή, ίσως, ότι αναδύει μια μυρωθκιά χυδαιότητας που μόνο η ομιλία μέσω της Κοινής Νεοελληνικής μπορεί να σβήσει.
